FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GARDEN STUDIOS
The Baze garden studio can be set up in just one day.
The Baze garden studio has the same lifespan as a traditional wooden house.
Since the garden studio has a floor area of no more than 20 square meters and is located away from the main house, a simple Prior Declaration to the town hall is sufficient; a building permit is not required.
You are welcome to visit our showroom in Saint-Genix-les-Villages—please make an appointment.
Yes, it is connected to the electrical grid, and connections to the water supply and drainage systems are planned.
Our services include installation: we connect the garden studio’s electricity to your home’s electrical panel and the drinking water to the nearest outdoor water spigot. As for drainage, we connect your studio directly to the sewer line or existing septic tank.
You are free to handle this yourself if you wish.
Designed with the environment in mind, the garden studio is anchored to the ground using an ingenious system of metal jacks. This means no foundation is required.
Yes, of course, since the garden studio is anchored to the ground with metal jacks rather than on a concrete slab.
No. The metal frame cannot be disassembled.
The development tax is a single local tax levied by the municipality, the department, and the region on all construction, reconstruction, or expansion projects for buildings, provided they require planning permission (building permit or prior declaration).
The development tax is due on the total floor area of enclosed and roofed structures with a floor area exceeding 5 m² and a ceiling height of 1.80 m or more. Garden studios are therefore subject to this requirement.
Yes, it is entirely possible to live in the garden studio year-round. You’ll enjoy all the comforts of a home, along with all the amenities needed to live comfortably in a Baze garden studio. Its thermal and sound insulation ensure a truly comfortable living experience. The garden studio is built with high-quality insulation, and the materials used are the same as those in a traditional home. A reversible air conditioning/heating system is built in so you can enjoy it all year round.
Exterior maintenance is required only once every two years to keep the exterior looking its best; a simple coat of wood stain is all that’s needed to bring out its full charm.
If you choose metal siding, no maintenance will be required.
For our wood siding, we use Finnish Thermowood pine, a sustainable material produced through natural drying methods that use heat and steam without the addition of chemicals. This thermal treatment significantly improves the wood’s properties, making it more stable and durable. As a result, it can be used outdoors in almost any climate.
The benefits of Thermowood for exterior siding:
More resistant to weather, fungi, and fungal attacks.
Less wood movement: the wood no longer swells or shrinks by up to 90%, depending on the treatment applied.
Reduced wood tension.
Moisture is balanced: because it has been heat-treated, the wood absorbs significantly less moisture.
Even after sawing, drilling, or screwing, the wood retains its properties because it has been made resistant through the drying process.
Durability Class 2: lifespan of 15 to 25 years or more.
Resin-sap: The resin disappears through this process, so you no longer risk sap bleeding.
Its insulation properties are enhanced compared to non-thermally treated wood.
Eco-friendly and healthy because it is manufactured without chemical additives.

It’s an affordable investment that requires no down payment. It’s then up to you to rent it out seasonally or to a student, for example, to generate additional income.
