What is a livable garden studio?
A garden studio is often a covered wooden or metal structure designed to be lived in. It is typically a small house or cottage built in the garden of an existing property. The design of these studios usually reflects the owner’s interests and passions, and they are often used as a creative retreat or home office.
A garden studio must be well-insulated and efficient at maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures without the need for artificial heating.
A garden studio is a place where you can design, create, and build your own living space. It is a space you can use to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy the beauty of nature. A garden studio is a place where you can find peace and serenity amidst the hustle and bustle of city life.
These types of studios can be used by artists, writers, or anyone who needs a space to work from home. A livable garden studio can also serve as a small office, an artist’s studio, or even a home office.
They offer an oasis away from the stress of modern life and provide an opportunity to reconnect with nature and get some fresh air.
And from a legal standpoint?
There is very little paperwork involved, and this structure can be built without a building permit.
However, your turnkey “habitable garden house” must not exceed a maximum floor area of 20 square meters.
Since the garden studio does not exceed 20 m² and is set back from the main house, a simple Prior Declaration to the City Hall is sufficient.
What is a livable garden studio used for?
A garden studio is a space used for a variety of purposes:
Some garden studios are used as home extensions by people who work from home and spend most of their time there. These people may have their own gardens and grow plants in the space.
Garden studios can also be used as event spaces for weddings or other celebrations. They can also be rented to people who wish to organize small events such as workshops, seminars, weddings, or parties that do not require a large space.
Garden studios are an excellent way to enjoy the natural environment and make the most of your outdoor space. They can be used for a variety of creative activities such as painting, drawing, pottery, or any other type of art you enjoy, but also simply as a place to live.
A habitable garden studio can also be used for many purposes, such as a hobby studio, an office, or even a guest house.
What are the benefits of a livable garden studio?
The advantage of this type of studio is that it can be used for both work and leisure, meaning you can use it for work and still have time to relax.
There are many benefits to a habitable garden studio:
You’ll enjoy nature while you work, which will help you stay relaxed and focused.
You’ll spend more time with your family and friends, since they can come over whenever they want.
A habitable garden studio is an economical and eco-friendly solution for expanding your home.

What are the differences between a tiny house and a garden studio?
→ A Tiny House is a small house mounted on a trailer that can easily be towed.
→ A garden studio is a small house that can be built in the garden of an existing property or on vacant land. Garden studios are typically detached from the main house and are designed to be self-contained units with plumbing, heating, electricity, and insulation.
What can you find in livable garden studios?
Just like a live-in cabin or a tiny house, a live-in garden studio can be designed, equipped, or configured to include: a double-pane picture window, glass French doors, a living room, a bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a flat or tiled roof, a kitchenette near your vegetable garden, a sauna, etc.

What materials are used to build a garden studio?
The materials used for a garden studio can vary. It all depends on the person’s needs and preferences. Some people like to use wood, while others prefer metal or steel. There are many options available…
The Baze House garden studio is constructed of a metal frame.
As for the siding, the garden studio can be clad in wood or metal siding for low-maintenance care. A combination of both is entirely possible to enhance the exterior appearance of the livable garden studio.
For our wood siding, we use Finnish Thermowood pine, a sustainable material produced through natural drying methods that use heat and steam without the addition of chemicals. This thermal treatment significantly improves the wood’s properties, making it more stable and durable. As a result, it can be used outdoors in almost any climate.
